What the cards
actually do

Tarot is not a window into the future. It is a mirror pointed at the present — at the patterns, tensions, and possibilities already alive in you right now.

The cards don't know your fate. But they are surprisingly good at showing you what you already know and haven't yet let yourself see. This guide covers how to do a tarot reading, what each spread means, and what reversed cards are actually telling you.

How to read tarot

Four principles that actually matter

Ask a real question

Vague questions get vague readings. 'What should I do about my job?' is weaker than 'What am I afraid of losing if I leave?' The more honest the question, the more useful the answer.

Read the whole spread first

Individual cards are words. The spread is the sentence. A card means something alone — it means something different next to what surrounds it. Always read the whole before the parts.

Sit with what you don't want to see

The card you least want to flip is usually the most important. Difficult cards aren't bad news. They're the part of the truth you've been avoiding.

You don't need to believe in tarot

Tarot doesn't require faith. It requires attention. If a card prompts a thought or a feeling — that is the reading. The image is a surface. What it reflects is yours.

Reversed tarot cards explained

Not bad news. Turned inward.

When a tarot card is reversed, its energy is blocked, withheld, or turned inward. Not negative — unexpressed. A reversed Sun is still the Sun. The warmth and vitality are present; they're just not reaching the surface yet.

Ask of any reversed card: where is this energy going instead of outward? That question is usually more useful than any keyword.
